Pregnant women have a higher risk of severe illness from COVID-19. In this webinar, experts will discuss COVID vaccination in pregnancy, breastfeeding, and those planning to be pregnant. They will dispel myths and highlight the global evidence, which has shown that vaccines are safe for women and their babies.  The event is open to both the general public as well as medical practitioners and specialists.

PANELISTS

Dr Michelle Giles

Dr Michelle Giles is an Infectious Diseases Physician who combines her private practice with public hospital appointments at the Alfred Hospital, Monash Health, the Royal Women's Hospital and Sunshine Hospital. She is Deputy Co-Chair of the Pregnancy and Perinatal Care Panel of the Australian Government’s National COVID-19 Clinical Evidence Taskforce.

 

Dr Clare Whitehead

Dr Clare Whitehead is an obstetrician combining subspecialty Maternal Fetal Medicine training with translational research at the Royal Women’s Hospital in Melbourne. She is also a Senior Research Fellow, in the University of Melbourne Department of Obstetrics & Gynaecology. Her research combines bench side development of protein and genetic markers to monitor placental function with their evaluation in the clinic in combination with clinical, ultrasound and novel MRI techniques.

 

Clare is Deputy Co-Chair of the Pregnancy and Perinatal Care Panel of the Australian Government’s National COVID-19 Clinical Evidence Taskforce, and co- Principal Investigator of the national COVID-19 in Pregnancy Registry (CHOPAN).

 

Dr Vijay Roach

Dr Vijay Roach is an obstetrician and gynaecologist who has worked in both private and public practice in Sydney. He has been the President of RANZCOG since November 2018. Additionally, he lectures at the University of Sydney.

Professor Sue Walker

Professor Sue Walker is a maternal fetal medicine sub-specialist and an academic clinical researcher. She has founded and continues to lead the Perinatal Medicine Department at Mercy Hospital for Women, which has flourished into a tertiary referral site for some of the highest risk pregnancies in Victoria.

 

Professor Walker obtained her FRANZCOG and MD in 2000 before completing MFM sub-specialty training in 2004 and undertaking a Maternal Fetal Medicine fellowship at the world leading Mt Sinai Hospital, Toronto in 2007.
