RANZCOG SYMPOSIUM OVERVIEW

The RANZCOG Symposium consisted of a one-day pre-meeting workshop program, held on Monday, 24 July, followed by a one-day scientific program, held on Tuesday, 25 July at Montage, Sydney.   

The scientific program featured a mix of sessions featuring acclaimed experts across the Obstetrics and Gynaecology specialty, with a broad array of topics:  from cybersecurity, to sustainability, to medical management of obstetric and gynaecological conditions.  In addition, a trade exhibition as well as a sponsored a Breakfast Masterclass and Lunch and Learn session were held on Tuesday, 25 July.  The social program included a Symposium Dinner.   No virtual component was made available for delegates.

The meeting was attended by over 230 delegates.

The RANZCOG Symposium featured:

·       1 days of plenary sessions and panels

·       20 invited speakers and 4 free communication presentations

·       3 pre-meeting workshops

·       15 sponsors and exhibitors

88 Abstracts were accepted in total by the Symposium Working Group.

4 free communication presentations were included in the program

9 static posters were available for viewing onsite in the main plenary room

41 e-posters were displayed in the plenary room and on the Meeting app

New Fellows Awards and Presentation Ceremony

In conjunction with the Sydney Symposium, a New Fellows Awards and Presentation Ceremony was held on the evening of 23 July at Montage, Lilyfield. 

49 New Fellows and Subspecialists were presented in this ceremony, along with a number of Honours Recipients:

  • Gita Mishra - Excellence in Women's Health Award
  • Janet Vaughan - Distinguished Service Medal
  • Paul Lancaster - Honorary Fellowship

A cocktail reception for all newly presented Fellows, Subspecialists and Honours recipients and their family and loved ones was held following the ceremony.

Awards and Scholarships

RANZCOG Organisational Values Award

In recognition contributions to exemplifying RANZCOG's organisational values were awarded to:

·       Dr Erin Kelly

·       Dr Himali Ihalagama Rallage

Best Static Poster
Was awarded to Philip Cellich for the presentation titled Impact on Pregnancy Outcomes of Intermittent Preventive Treatment of Malaria with Sulphadoxine-Pyrimethamine in Peri-Urban Papua New Guinea.

Best Free Communication
Was awarded to Sanjana Menon for the presentation titled Motivating factors behind women using social media to seek information about endometriosis: a scoping review. 

The awards were presented by RANZCOG President Dr Gillian Gibson, President Elect, during the meeting closing session.
